3 Best Suede Powerlifting Weight Belts [2020 Reviews]

Today, I’m going to be looking at the three best options when it comes to buying a suede weight lifting belt. I’ll be examining the most popular choice, the Harbinger Padded Leather Contoured Weightlifting Belt, as well as two other valuable choices.

I’ll show you the most important things people generally look for when purchasing a suede belt and explain how these belts do (or don’t) provide them.

Let’s get started.

In a Rush? Here’s Our Top Pick!

Things to Consider When Buying Suede Weight Belts

Suede weight lifting belts are best described as a middle-ground option. They provide some of the comfort of neoprene, with some of the strength of leather, without reaching the same extremes as either of those options.

Users that have opted to go for a suede belt usually have a particular reason for doing so. It is, therefore, only fair that we judge them based on their own specific criteria.

Comfort

One of the two main selling points that suede belts have over their traditional leather counterparts is comfort.

The suede interior makes it sit much more comfortably around your waist and requires no breaking in time, meaning you can use your belt straight out of the box.

Price

The other main reason people will opt for a suede belt is the price.

Suede belts are, by default, a much more affordable option. You can regularly find suede belts around a third of the price of the leather alternatives.

This can be especially attractive to newer lifters who want a good product but aren’t prepared to drop huge sums on their new hobby just yet.

Strength

While the previous two points made comparisons with the leather variety, this one is in regards to neoprene belts.

Neoprene options are both cheaper and more comfortable than suede, so you may find yourself asking, “Why not go for that based on the first two criteria?”

The answer to that is a simple one, and it is strength.

While belts are listed as suede, they will often be made from a combination of leather on the outside and suede on the inside. This provides them with substantial strength and support advantages over a neoprene option.

3 Best Suede Weightlifting Belts

1. Harbinger Padded Leather Contoured Weightlifting Belt

By a distance, the Harbinger Padded Leather Contoured Weightlifting Belt is the most popular in its class and regularly receives rave reviews.

While quantity doesn’t always signal quality, the overwhelmingly positive response certainly justifies its standing.

Made by an established brand in the industry, founded by record-setting 8-time Mr. Olympia Lee Haney, it does exactly what you would expect from a suede belt to the letter.

They have combined the suede lining with internal foam padding and a contoured design. This provides maximum comfort while wearing the belt, no matter how tight it is.

The 4-inch leather backing provides a strong, sturdy exterior to the belt….perfect for keeping you safe and supported throughout your set.

The price is comfortably in the normal range for this type of product and is the cheapest on the list. This will not only make it accessible to all but will also be seen as good value when taking the popularity of the brand into account.

Pros:

  • Comes from a reputable brand
  • Contours around the hips & ribs for optimal comfort
  • Leather backing provides firm support during lifts

Cons:

  • Known cases of the belt breaking or ripping
  • Starts off very stiff

2. ProFitness Weight Lifting Belt

Anyone who has seen my previous articles reviewing belts will know I’m a fan of the ProFitness brand. They continuously provide quality products at reasonable prices, and this belt is no exception.

Let’s start off by looking at the ProFitness Weight Lifting Belt’s greatest asset: Its strength.

Made from a thicker leather than the Harbinger, it also has a greater leather to suede ratio. As a result, it is a substantially stronger, and more supportive option.

While a little more expensive than the Harbinger, it is still also a very cost-effective option that certainly won’t break the bank.

Its big drawback in this comparison, however, is the level of comfort it provides.

While it still features a contoured design, its lower suede content combined with a lack of internal padding make for a much less comfortable fit.

When comfort is often the deciding factor in buying this type of product, it is certainly a massive negative.

Pros:

  • Durable and resilient leather for PRs with confidence
  • A high-quality belt at a great price
  • 100% customer satisfaction policy

Cons:

  • Minimal suede makes the belt stiff and uncomfortable

3. Stoic Powerlifting Belt/Weight Lifting Belt

Of the three belts we are looking at today, the Stoic Powerlifting Belt/Weight Lifting Belt is easily the closest to a traditional leather powerlifting belt.

This is due to the 10mm thickness and the 4-inch diameter featured the entire way around the belt.

As such, it is also by a distance the strongest of the three, and possibly the strongest suede belt I have come across. Period.

This is a great quality, as it provides powerful, evenly balanced support on all sides.

Unfortunately, it comes up much shorter on the other two criteria.

The lack of contouring means it has a less ergonomic fit, making it is much more likely to dig in. Combine that with not having any internal padding as the Harbinger does and it is a much less comfortable option.

Then comes the cost, as it is priced much more closely with traditional powerlifting belts.

Pros:

  • Even support across the belt
  • 10mm thickness can support seriously heavy lifts
  • Designed to be invincible

Cons:

  • Very expensive (a deal-breaker for novices)
  • Not ergonomically-designed

And the Best Suede Weight Belt is…

Harbinger Padded Leather Contoured Weightlifting Belt

  • Comes from a reputable brand
  • Contours around the hips & ribs for optimal comfort
  • Leather backing provides firm support during lifts

As I mentioned at the beginning, the Harbinger Padded Leather Belt is the preferred choice in this category. When looking at the list, it is actually a perfect representation of suede weight lifting belts as a whole.

While not being the strongest, the cheapest, or the most comfortable option on the market, it does provide the greatest mix of all those things combined. It’s perfect for when you are shopping in the middle ground of belts that are of the suede variety.

However, if you’ve decided that you want a belt that provides the traditional level of support, but gives you a little more comfort while doing it, then the Stoic Powerlifting Belt/Weight Lifting Belt is a more than worthy choice.
